Mike comes to Pharmacy Investigators and Consultants with over 16 years in the Pharmacy and Pharmacy Benefits Management Industry. Most recently he worked as an Account Manager at CastiaRx. Where he managed a book of business that included employer groups, unions, managed care, as well as government plans. He took an active role in working closely with the CastiaRx sales team in building its first union coalition group. While also developing a deep understanding of the inner workings of a PBM and the services available to clients in the marketplace. He used this understanding to provide the best service to his clients, and as leverage to negotiate the best pricing terms for them.
Previous to his work at CastiaRx Mike worked at OptumRx for five years. Initially as a Pharmacy Audit representative where he performed internal audits. These included daily review of claims data for inaccuracies and working directly with pharmacies to correct. As well as document review audits to check for accuracies in compliance adherence. This work gave him the deeper understanding of CFR guidelines and state laws governing pharmacy practices and prepared him for his following role. Mike was moved to the Client Directed and CMS audit team at OptumRx as a supervisor. In his role as a supervisor his responsibilities included interfacing directly with clients, reporting audit results back to CMS, keeping up to date on all CFR guidelines, and managing each audit projects progress to meet deadlines.
Before joining the PBM industry Mike started his background in the pharmacy space in a retail setting. Mike worked as a retail pharmacy technician for Walgreens for 10 years. This experience gave him a deep and firsthand knowledge of pharmacy practices and procedures. He worked as the Senior Pharmacy Tech. where he was responsible for inventory management, tech training and scheduling, data entry and corrective actions. It was this background that gave him the love for the pharmacy industry and helping members. Which drove him to each additional role so that he could affect member outcomes at larger and larger scales.
Mike has started but has not completed his B.S. in pre-pharmacy studies.
