Pharmacy Operations Assessments – Accounting and Inventory Management

Our pharmacy operations assessments review inventory management techniques within pharmacies (inpatient, outpatient and clinics).  Our assessments ensure that inventory is properly maintained and accounted for within the operation.  Specifically, we audit purchases against dispensing records to determine shortages.  We can also ensure that third party (PBM) reimbursements are reconciled and maximized.

Our onsite assessments include the following:

  • Review of the wholesaler agreements from Cardinal, McKesson, AmeriSource Bergen or regional wholesalers to maximize purchasing power and lower needs for inventory deposits. We also assist clients maximize invoice turnaround time and inventory turns.
  • Review of inventory receipt procedures including automated scanning of purchases. We work with all wholesaler purchasing systems, EPIC and other Electronic Medical Records (EMR) billing systems.
  • Physical inventory efficiency and maximization of floor space including the purchase of carousels and other automated dispensing equipment.
  • Review of medication distribution policies and procedures to floors and nursing stations and remote dispensing stations.
  • Assistance with wholesalers that have questioned narcotics purchasing volumes or discontinued narcotics purchasing abilities.
  • Collaboration with staff impairment specialists who can proactively intervene when it suspected or has been discovered that staff is impaired. Intervention techniques include reduction of liability, prosecution or rehabilitation
