PIC can provide peace of mind when it comes to the security of your building, your prescription drug inventory and staff members. We administer full security assessments of your building, systems and employees to spot potential vulnerabilities before problems occur.
Our security assessments review the security of any pharmacy – a stand-alone pharmacy, a mail order facility or a hospital in-patient or out-patient pharmacy. In the past, our investigators have reviewed the security and adherence to regulations of facilities as wide ranging as National Football League training centers to facilities that only dispense controlled drugs. In addition, newly designed medicinal and recreational marijuana dispensing facilities are ideal for our reviews to ensure compliance with new and changing state and local ordinances. These facilities are especially subject to diversion and theft.
Our investigators perform assessments of the physical security of the building as well as systems security and employees/vendor vulnerabilities. Specifically we look at:
- Overall security for patient and employee access (biometric entry, cameras, microphones and other security devices)
- Background checks and security assessments of key and non-key line and management personnel, access to building and drug storage and dispensing areas.
- Delivery of drugs into facility – process for taking delivery and for lost in transit drug inventory
- Server (electronic)/drug storage protection including software, hardware and password/fire wall safety.
- Separation between retail pharmacy and mail pharmacy access points, and other business that are located in adjoining offices within the building or areas including an entire environmental scan; vulnerability assessment includes a review of area businesses and accessibility to law enforcement
- Storage of drugs, including high cost specialty drugs, controlled drugs and vital storage (i.e. refrigeration).
- Shipment procedures to ensure the patient properly receives the medication including vulnerabilities with deliveries, drivers and third party vendors (such as UPS and FedEx).
- Policies and procedures concerning all of the above
